Presentation Abstract:

"Distribution Automation and AMI Integration in Europe"

The smart grid has the power to unlock genuine transformation in the energy industry - a transformation that will move from a centralized to a decentralized set-up, from distribution to contribution. Only by taking an integrative approach that spans from generation to the customer premise at the smart meter and beyond into home automation will we be able to unlock the full potential of the smart grid. European utilities are on this kind of path to realizing the smart grid, integrating and automating distribution networks and smart meter communications, and managing distributed generation.

This presentation examines European progress to date in this area, with particular emphasis on a case study highlighting lessons learned in distribution automation and AMI integration issues.
