"Network Deployments: Perspectives from the Field"

This presentation will identify some of the technical issues faced when implementing two different city-wide smart grid projects in Ontario, Canada -- one using Sensus' solution and the other using Elster's solution.

    Michael J. Martin, Senior Managing Consultant, Global Center of Competency for Energy & Utilities, IBM

    As senior managing consultant in IBM's Centerof Competency for Energy & Utilities, Mr. Martin consults on complex RF systems and digital media systems and architecture. For the past four years, he has worked predominately in the energy and utility sector on the smart meter / smart grid projects for Toronto Hydro and London Hydro. In conjunction with London Hydro, he co-authored the technical component for the RFQ for smart meters for 33 local distribution companies in Ontario. He was the lead architect for the initial conceptual design of the Hydro One province-wide, smart meter backhaul network. During the past year, he has presented on E&U topics at UTC Canada, EDA Canada, CEA, and the Cyber Security Conference. For over 30 years, he has interfaced with Industry Canada to help clients' secured spectrum and licences.
